What’s not to like about a thriller set mainly in a Florida nudist resort?Naked Alliances is a crisp tale about a ten-year-old murder that’s suddenly relevant, and Richard Noggin is the sometimes reluctant PI to solve it. Believe me, this isn’t the Orlando of Disney World. Instead it’s a completely believable underworld of seedy operators and innocent victims, transvestites with hearts of gold, and plenty of danger for Mr. Noggin. The pace is relentless, though there’s occasional time for fishing and beer.
Readers will love Brandi, the transgender hot mama who tumbles into Richard’s life on page 1 and then helps him in his investigation of the murder. Brandi has her own baggage for him to deal with, but the two of them make for a great team that I’m sure we’ll be seeing together again in Book 2 of the series.
For my next vacation in Florida, I think I might shoot for the Gulf side …

When you pick up an independently published novel to read, you never know what you are going to get. I have tried to read a few that were so amateurish that I couldn't finish them. I'm very happy to report that Naked Alliances is one of the best independent books I've ever read. It was funny in parts, gripping in other parts, and overall very entertaining. I will be looking forward to another Richard Noggin adventure...
Characters are well developed and the pace flows nicely through the entire book. I knew nothing about the nudist resort scene being from the great white north, but feel well versed in it now. The story begins with a 10 year old murder cold case that is intertwined with an illegal sex-slave-immigrant ring. Our private eye Richard Noggin and his unlikely partner, Brandi work well together and offer great action and a few laughs along the way. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book.
This was my first time reading any work by this author and I am pleased! There were bits of humor and the characters seemed unique. And I absolutely loved the setting of this story, I can't say I have ever read a book with a setting at a nudist colony. ) This story has plenty of action, that I found I had difficulty putting it down.

The author takes well-developed characters both likable and despicable, stirs in a fast-moving plot involving colorful, rarely visited Orlando-area “theme” worlds such as a raunchy sex “ranch” and a far tamer nudist resort, then meshes it all beautifully with wry humor. Reluctantly taking on everything from vile human trafficking to political intrigue to an unsolved murder, private detective Richard Noggin and saucy help-mate Brandi find themselves in constant and growing danger. The dialogue is snappy, the pace unrelenting, the gravity of serious themes balanced with a lighter-hearted take on human foibles and developing relationships. And even if you’ve never lived there, the author’s tight control over the local geography of the Orlando area makes you feel as if you do. Great fun, great escape.
Part Carl Hiaasen, part Elmore Leonard, Naked Alliances takes the reader on a humorous but serious ride through the seedy underbelly of Orlando. Richard, a likable private investigator, teams up with a transgender showgirl, Brandi. Not only does Brandi make for a refreshing and original protagonist, her military background enriches the story, making her a capable sleuth in her own right. Throw in the setting of a nudist resort along with some alternative sexual lifestyles, and you've got a unique and page-turning read. I thoroughly enjoyed this ride and fans of original murder mysteries will too.
As a big fan of Florida Crime Fiction (Tim Dorsey, Carl Hiassen, Randy Wayne White) I thoroughly enjoyed this book. With that "only in Florida" theme, Naked Alliances takes you on a fast, fun yet unpredictable romp through the seedy side of the Sunshine State. It's a good story that moves right along and provides plenty of suspense and laughs.
I'm hooked and will be waiting impatiently for Book Two. Nicholls’ got a great idea here for a mystery series–adventurous mysteries that feature the nudist resort Leisure Lagoon and diverse Orlando as backdrops. What an original concept. And one S.K. understands since her “family owns and operates one of the oldest and largest nudist resorts in the nation.”
The book is fast-paced and plausible. The mystery itself takes some twists and turns and always seems to have one more twist ahead (even at the end). Richard Noggin (yes, think about it) is a semi-stable, humane, and very human protagonist, and his at-first-unwilling helper Brandi has a colorful personal style. I hope we see more of the two of them teamed up solving crimes. Not sure Richard can do without Brandi’s assistance!
Maybe the most glowing praise I can pin on this book is that I kept envisioning everything as if it were a movie playing out before my eyes.
